Puzzle Crossing 0.96 Released!



After around 100 commits, a new version is available! This released mostly focused on polishing up the game but I did add some new content and made several balancing tweaks. Especially on the main map. Here is a summarized changelog:

New/Changed:

  • Add World Quests (not tied to an NPC). Eg. there is now a main quest that helps guide the player through the storyline.
  • Added TNT gem.
  • Unclaimed overflow items will drop in the map after leaving a location. Note: They will not be saved if you leave the map/game.
  • Added/tweaked/improved some gem breaking effects
  • Enabled Glow for certain effects. Most notably gem breaking particles
  • Added item and ability shooting effect. (eg. foam dart guns shoot darts at the gems now)
  • Added new farm graphics and layout including some NPC costumes
  • Added new farm location: Chicken Coop
  • Added a new quest for the Chicken Coop
  • Added a new game mechanic. Stockpiling and stockpile rewards. The first instance is the Silo at the farm. Second is the Fish Stand.
  • Recipe rewards moved from some stages to the Silo.
  • Added TNT item to place TNT gems
  • Added matchstick item to ignite TNT gems
  • Added more seed items the stockpile.
  • Added different collector cells for certain themed matches. Eg. rescuing chickens
  • Gems can now pursue multiple gem types. Eg. Bear can go after blueberries and raspberries.
  • Weekly tutorial and challenge starts after the first week. This reduces how much new information the player is hit with at the start.
  • Added another transition screen (diamond fade effect) and a radial shine option to Wuffly instead of Wuffly spinning
  • Farm, logging camp and other level balancing tweaks. (eg. now much easier to get seeds and wheat for the Silo)
  • Modified in match UI. Hopefully it is a little easier to keep your focus on the action.
  • Added highlighting of which columns or rows will be affected when using items like the Axe, Huge Axe or Chainsaw. (or Slide Tackle ability)
  • Rebalanced some abilities.
  • Added persistence of overflow items in locations
  • Added persistence of dynamically spawned items on the overworld map.
  • Can access Trophy Shelf from anywhere now (except in matches)
  • Reorganized Turn and Move display a little. Hopefully for the better
  • Made it easier to catch fish. Fishing nets (items and gems) now catch fish. Trade your fish in at the Fish Stand.

Fixed:

  • UI Fixes. Buttons not showing up correctly, not working etc.
  • Added missing Pickaxe gem textures
  • Many dialogue fixes
  • Avatar movement jitter fixed
  • Avatar movement animation frames getting stuck sometimes fixed
  • Fixed items getting sent to inventory animations getting hidden behind dialog panels etc.
  • Several fixes to action effects like the Covert ability allowing you to select non-transformable gems.

The next month of development will be focused on getting ready for a Steam release. This will include more playtesting of the Springbank map and integrating SteamWorks to add Steam Cloud saves. I am not sure if I will get to achievements but it is on the roadmap.
